55-Inch and 65-Inch Monitor Dimensions

Screen dimensions for 55-inch and 65-inch monitors

Monitor size is measured diagonally across the screen. For a 16:9 display, the visible screen is about 47.9 inches wide × 27.0 inches high at a true 55-inch diagonal, and about 56.7 inches wide × 31.9 inches high at a true 65-inch diagonal. These are calculated screen-area estimates; the bezel and stand are not included.

Real products may be slightly smaller than their class size. Samsung lists one 55-class display with a measured 54.6-inch diagonal and an active area of 1209.6 × 680.4 mm (about 47.6 × 26.8 in), and one 65-class display with a measured 64.5-inch diagonal and active area of 1428.48 × 803.52 mm (about 56.2 × 31.6 in). The brochure specifies a 16:9 format. Samsung display specifications.

The monitor body is larger than the screen

If you need to fit a monitor on a desk, into a cabinet, or on a wall, check the manufacturer’s set dimensions for the complete unit. The bezel adds to the visible-screen measurements, and a stand can add depth and height. As one 65-inch display example, Samsung lists a body measuring 1456.8 × 831.9 × 28.5 mm (about 57.4 × 32.8 × 1.1 in), before adding an optional stand. Samsung 65-inch QMC display specifications.

How to measure a monitor for fit

Measure the available space where the full device will sit, then compare it with the monitor’s width, height, and depth. If the unit will be mounted, include the mount and cable clearance; if it will sit on furniture, use the dimensions with the stand installed. The diagonal screen size alone does not tell you whether the monitor will fit.
