TV Screen Dimensions by Size: 32–100-Inch Chart

TV screen dimensions by diagonal size

Most modern TVs use a 16:9 screen. To measure a screen's advertised size, measure diagonally across the visible picture area from one corner to the opposite corner; do not include the bezel. The chart estimates active-screen width and height from that diagonal. Values are rounded to the nearest tenth. These are screen dimensions, not the full TV's outer dimensions.

How TV screen dimensions are calculated

For a 16:9 display, width is the diagonal multiplied by 16/√(16²+9²), and height is the diagonal multiplied by 9/√(16²+9²). For example, a 55-inch screen is about 48.0 inches wide and 27.0 inches high. To convert inches to centimeters, multiply by 2.54. A screen described as “55 inches” is measured diagonally, not horizontally.

Screen size is not the TV's full size

The bezel, case, stand and stand-leg spacing change the space needed. Wall-mount depth and connection clearance matter too. For a model-specific example, our 65-inch TV dimensions guide shows the screen estimate beside exact Samsung product dimensions. Before buying, check the manufacturer's specifications for the exact model. This chart does not give shipping-carton dimensions or product weight.
