There is no single length and width used for every soccer field. Under IFAB Law 1, a general full-size field may be 100–130 yards long and 50–100 yards wide. For international matches, the allowed range narrows to 110–120 yards long and 70–80 yards wide.
| Playing format | Length | Width | Approx. dimensions in feet |
|---|---|---|---|
| General full-size range under IFAB | 100–130 yd | 50–100 yd | 300–390 ft × 150–300 ft |
| International match range | 110–120 yd | 70–80 yd | 330–360 ft × 210–240 ft |
The field must be rectangular, and its touchline (long side) must be longer than its goal line (short side). A competition can select dimensions within the applicable range.
