IBC Tote Dimensions: 275- and 300-Gallon Tank Sizes

IBC tote dimensions at a glance

Intermediate bulk container (IBC) dimensions vary by tank material, capacity, pallet and model. These two manufacturer examples show why a gallon rating alone does not determine outside size:

Example model Nominal capacity Overall length × width × height
Caged composite IBC 275 U.S. gal (about 1,041 L) 48 × 40 × 46 in
Stainless-steel IBC 300 U.S. gal (about 1,136 L) 42 × 48 × 41 in

The 275-gallon example is from IBC Tanks' product specifications. The 300-gallon stainless example is from Metano's product listing. These are named products, not universal dimensions for every tote.

What does tote volume mean?

A tote's capacity describes the liquid it can hold; its outside dimensions describe the space it occupies. For reference, 275 U.S. gallons is about 1,041 liters, and 300 gallons is about 1,136 liters. A tote's brimful capacity can differ from its rated working capacity, so use the rating plate and manufacturer data for filling limits.

A 275- or 300-gallon label does not tell you its exact footprint, height, valve location or empty weight. Those depend on the specific construction.

Measure an IBC tote for fit

For a fit check, record the outside length, width and total height, including the pallet and cap if they project beyond the bottle. Also measure the door opening, rack opening, forklift clearance and overhead space where it will be moved or stored.

A common caged 275-gallon model uses a 48 × 40-inch base and is about 46 inches high. Other pallets and metal models can have different footprints. Leave room for the outlet valve and hoses; the container's rectangular dimensions do not include the working space needed to connect or drain it.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of a 275-gallon IBC tote?

One caged composite example is 48 × 40 × 46 inches. Check the product plate because other models may differ.

How big is a 300-gallon tote?

One 300-gallon stainless-steel model is 42 × 48 × 41 inches. Capacity, material and manufacturer affect the dimensions.

Are all IBC totes the same size?

No. Compare the exact model's dimensions and capacity; the gallon rating alone does not establish the outside size.

How much volume does a tote hold?

Use the rated capacity on its label. For conversions, 275 U.S. gallons is about 1,041 liters and 300 gallons about 1,136 liters.
